Today we are recognizing National Assistive Technology (AT) Awareness Day. Also known as Augmentative and Alternative Communication (AAC), AT includes any tool or device that supports a person’s ability to function and participate in daily activities more independently. This can range from low-tech supports like our playground communication board to high-tech devices with speech-to-text software.
Each morning, a small group of 2nd graders get to help Mrs. Melcher with the pledge and announcements. Today, Remi welcomed everyone to school and got us started with the Pledge of Allegiance using his AAC. Our 2nd graders were so excited to see his device and talk to Remi about all of his favorite things! 💙 💚 🤍

🌱 Our New Sensory Garden is Here! 🌱
A huge thank you to Coach Wood for writing the grant that made our Pizza Garden possible! 🙌 With this generous funding, we were able to purchase raised beds and all the materials needed to create something truly special.
Soon our garden will be bursting with herbs and veggies—full of amazing smells and bright colors that will delight the senses! 🌿🍅
Yesterday, our preschoolers got to experience the magic firsthand! Ms. Hall, Ms. Cobos, and Mrs. Ivey took their class outside for an unforgettable science lesson. The children enjoyed reading The Tiny Seed by Eric Carle right there in the garden—and you could see the wonder on their faces! 📚✨ Getting up close to real plants gave our learners an incredible opportunity to see how plants grow in a real-life setting. There's nothing quite like hands-on learning! 🌻

This is the sixth year BCSD has organized this epic field day event for students with special needs and their “buddies” from the general education classrooms. After opening ceremonies, students took the field to rotate through games and activities, managed by Stratford High student athletes and leaders. It was a great day!

Mrs. James’ class took on the Fear Factor Challenge! 🕵️♂️🎯
Students faced their fears while using their five senses to make observations and infer what might be inside each mystery box. This hands-on activity encouraged critical thinking, bravery, and scientific exploration — all while having a ton of fun! 🌟👃👀✋👂
