Coach Benjamin Lailson – Biography
Coach Benjamin Lailson in his 24th year of coaching—15 of those in the Lowcountry—with a deep passion for developing student-athletes both on and off the field. He currently serves as the Defensive Coordinator and Defensive Line Coach at Goose Creek High School in Goose Creek, SC.
Originally from San Diego, CA, Coach Lailson moved to Myrtle Beach, SC during high school and later attended Charleston Southern University, where he was a member of the football team. He earned a Bachelor’s degree in Spanish with a minor in Psychology, as well as a South Carolina Teaching Certificate. He has also completed graduate studies in Administration at the University of Phoenix.
Throughout his career, Coach Lailson has held numerous leadership roles, including Department Chair, FCA Coordinator, Spanish National Honor Society Sponsor, Head Softball Coach, Head Soccer coach, Defensive Line Coach, and Defensive Coordinator during his time at Timberland High School.

R.B. Stall High School – Head Football Coach, ending one of the state's longest losing streaks
Philip Simmons High School – Coach, help leading the way to the program’s first-ever Region Championship and first playoff win
Timberland High School – Defensive Coordinator / Defensive Line Coach for over a decade
Mauldin High School, Lakewood High School, Myrtle Beach High School, R.B. Stall High School, First Baptist Church School, Northwood Academy
Coach Lailson has been part of 15 Region Championships, 2 State Championships, and 2 Lower State Championships, and has coached 20+ college-bound athletes, along with numerous All-Region and All-State players.

Two-time #1 Defense in MaxPreps state rankings
2011 (14-1) – THS, South Carolina Division I-AA State Champions & Lower State Champions
2014 (14-0) – THS, South Carolina Division II-AA State Champions, Region VII-AA Champions, and the first undefeated season in Timberland High School history
Earned Philip Simmons High School’s first-ever Region Championship and first playoff victory
2023 Selected as a coach for the I-26 Inaugural Bowl All-Star Game
2021 Served in the box for the defense in the North/South All-Star Game
2018, Region – VII-AA Coach of the Year
2015 SCCAWS North/South All-Star Game – Head Coach
Coach Lailson loves teaching Spanish and is committed to instilling a love of learning, personal discipline, and competitive excellence in his students and athletes. His mission is to help young people become successful student-athletes by teaching the fundamentals, character, and accountability required to excel in both academics and athletics.
